Pattern Reviews — Peppermint Wrap Top

This week we review the latest free sewing pattern from our friends at Peppermint Magazine – the Wrap Top! This pattern is yet another cute wardrobe staple from In The Folds and perfectly timed for Spring here in the Southern Hemisphere. We made ours up in our lush new Exclusive Linen colour Sea Salt, kindly modelled here by Zosia from our HQ team.

Read on for our review, we definitely recommend giving this pattern a go, not only is it FREE, but it’s a fairly simple garment to make for an advanced beginner sewist!

Pattern Review

Wrap Top by In The Folds for Peppermint Magazine

The Wrap Top pattern is available as a free print-at-home download from the Peppermint Magazine Sewing School. It’s a super simple cropped wrap top with three quarter length sleeves, a back neck facing and bust darts. We made up the size C for Zosia and added 2cm to the hem for a slightly less cropped fit. The size C took 1.45m of our divine new Exclusive Linen colour Sea Salt (140cm wide). Linen ended up being a perfect choice, as it has a lovely textured feel that will soften with wear and holds the tie and bow beautifully!

As always with In The Folds patterns, the sewing instructions were accurate and easy to follow. The top is constructed with french seams (rather than overlocking) which gives the top a tidy, professional finish. Peppermint Magazine recommend this pattern would suit an Advanced Beginner which we’d agree with – you’ll need to sew a 6mm double turn on the bias to finish the front of the wrap, which we found a little bit fiddly!

Fabric Recommendations

Linen – Sea Salt

The Wrap Top is compatible with a wide range of fabrics and we suggest considering the silhouette you are wanting before choosing. We love how this looks in our Sea Salt Linen – it’s crisp, breezy summery feel would work perfectly for warmer weather. For a softer drapey silhouette, we recommend trying it out in a silk, rayon or even a luxe velvet; perfect as an evening or party piece!

The Wrap Top would make a chic and versatile addition to any #memade wardrobe, particularly for the warmer months on the way here in the Southern Hemisphere! Don’t forget to share your makes with us on Instagram by tagging @wearethefabricstore or using #thefabricstore
