Pattern Reviews — Peppermint Playsuit

It’s a super easy to wear summer staple with a bib front, patch pockets and tie straps. We definitely recommend giving this pattern a try, not only is it FREE, but you’ll get a very cute, summery playsuit perfect for hot days or layering when it’s cooler!

Pattern Review

Playsuit by In The Folds for Peppermint Magazine

The Playsuit pattern is available as a free print-at-home download from the Peppermint Sewing School. We sewed ours up in a size C for the lovely Briar and found that this was a great fit! It’s a roomy boxy fit and has an easy casual feel, so would be nice and breezy worn on its own, whilst giving enough room to layer a tee underneath. We used 1.6m of our Linen Plaid – Ink / Caper (145cm wide) which is a little bit more than the recommended amount as we wanted to match the checks. As always with free patterns from Peppermint Magazine, the instructions are very well illustrated and easy to follow. They suggest that this pattern would suit a beginner level sewist, which we would agree with! The only slightly tricky part would be sewing in the invisible zip if you haven’t sewn a zip before.

Fabric Recommendation

Linen Plaid – Ink / Caper

The cool thing about this Playsuit is that is would work in a variety of fabrics! Peppermint recommends light to mid-weight fabrics such as linen, cotton and chambray. We chose to make ours up in our Linen Plaid – Ink /Caper and love how this fabric lends the playsuit a summery, heritage feel. This style would also work beautifully in a plain or striped linen, a soft lightweight denim or perhaps a playful Liberty print!

Check out our suggestions featured below:
Liberty Clarks Canvas – Meandering Chrysanthemums, Linen Blend Stripe – Oat / Red, 6oz Tencel Denim – Indigo, Cotton Micro Houndstooth – Blue and Linen – Mustard

With summer well and truly here in New Zealand, we can’t wait to pair this playsuit with sandals and a sunhat! It’s a fun style and was simple to make; the perfect holiday project! Don’t forget to share yours with us on Instagram by tagging @wearethefabricstore or using #thefabricstore
