Pattern Reviews — Lark Frock

The Lark Frock from Canadian patternmaker Lydia Naomi popped up in our Instagram feed a little while back, and we knew it would be a dream in Organic Linen. With a subtle nod to the nineties and some clever gathering detail, this beginner-friendly pattern is a summertime winner! Read on for our review, kindly modelled by Amy from our HQ team.

Pattern Review

Lark Frock — Lydia Naomi

The Lark Frock is a stylish everyday dress offered in sizes 00—24. Featuring a front bodice drawstring keyhole and a gently gathered curved bust line, this is a style that is perfect for warm weather! It has a slim A-line skirt with room in the back for comfort and waist ties to cinch your waist if desired. The back also features a buttoned keyhole at the neck, two sleeve versions and an optional dart if you want a cinched back waist. We chose to make the above-knee length version with a cap sleeve for Amy in a size 6. The make took 1.7m of our Organic Linen, and made for an easy sew, aided by a clever instruction manual and lots of helpful pictures! Our favourite part was the clever construction of the front keyhole feature.

Overall this pattern was a super fun and surprisingly quick dress to make up! Very clean and satisfying finishing features, and some unique shaped pattern pieces. The semi-bodycon fit was a nice change from voluminous styles too. The pattern is Advanced Beginner /Intermediate level, which we'd agree with.

Lark is available in PDF format and can be purchased from Lydia Naomi's website here.

Fabric Recommendations

Organic Linen — Sea Green

Our Organic Linen range is one of our most popular! These plain weave linens have a lovely earthy feel, with subtle, naturally occurring slubs and tufts throughout. With a bouncy midweight handle, they feature a smooth aero-finish and beautiful depth of colour. This semi-transparent fabric has a very subtle lustre and no stretch, starting off crisp but softening beautifully over time. At 160gsm it's a wonderfully versatile weight, suitable for everything from shirts, shorts, dresses and skirts to all manner of homewares and accessories.

We love how our Lark Frock turned out in beautiful Sea Green! A few more colour options are pictured above, from top to bottom - Vintage Blush, Guava, Lichen, Celery, Lilac and Cornflower.

We'd highly recommend trying the Lark Frock if you're looking for a new summertime make. Share your seasonal projects with us using #TheFabricStore over on Instagram and TikTok, we're following along!
