Pattern Reviews — Esther Pant

We've been eyeing up the Esther Pant by Victory Patterns for a little while now, and with the recent change of season we thought now would be a perfect time to whip up a pair in our Ochre Linen! We're loving the relaxed feel that linen gives this style and the beautiful drapey volume that the pleated front offers. If you're on the hunt for a stylish wide leg pant pattern, the Esther is definitely a winner!

Pattern Review

Esther Pant by Victory Patterns

The Esther Pant is available as a PDF print-at-home download from the Victory Patterns website. We made ours up in a size 6 for the lovely Lisa from our HQ team and found that this was a pretty good fit! Lisa was in between the measurements for the size 4 and 6 in the hip, so there is a little more volume around the hip on her. The pattern offers a cropped length leg and a full-length leg, with an optional waist tie. We picked the full-length leg and ended up trimming off approximately 10cm from the hem for Lisa.

This style has a lovely loose fitting, wide leg with two angled overlapping pleats and a centre seam along the front of the leg. It also has generous slash pockets that follow the angle of the pleats and features an invisible zip and button closure at the centre back. We decided to omit the sash on the waistband as we wanted a smooth clean finish. We used the recommended 2.4m of our Ochre Linen (134cm wide) and found the instructions very easy to follow. Victory suggest this pattern would suit an intermediate level sewer, which we would agree with. You'll need to sew an invisible zip, waistband and slash pockets.

Fabric Recommendations

Linen - Ochre

The Esther Pant would work in a variety of mid-weight fabrics with drape, such as a wool crepe, mid-weight linen, tencel or rayon. We chose to make ours up in our beautiful Ochre Linen and love how this fabric gives the pant a relaxed, casual feel. This style would also work beautifully in a striped or chambray linen, plaid cotton, drapey rayon print or perhaps a lightweight wool suiting for cooler weather.

Check out our suggestions featured below, from top to bottom: Herringbone Cotton Plaid - Blue/Acorn, Organic Linen - Paprika, Five Dot Rayon Crepe - Navy, Organic Linen - Bone, Linen Chambray - Silver and Hairline Stripe Cotton Twill - Indigo

We love the on-trend wide leg and super comfy feel of the Esther Pant and would definitely recommend giving it a go! Don’t forget to share your makes with us on Instagram by tagging @wearethefabricstore or using #thefabricstore
